Sayuri’s official X (formerly Twitter) account states that Sayuri passed away on September 20, as announced on the site last Friday. She was only 28. According to reports, her family and friends arranged a secretive burial.
Musician Amaarashi, Sayuri’s spouse, reported through X/Twitter social media that Sayuri was suffering from a long-term disease.
On July 25 earlier this year, Sayuri announced that she would go on hiatus because she has functional dysphonia, a disorder in which a person’s voice can be hoarse or odd due to some reason that cannot be explained biologically or neurologically. During that time, she stated that she was attending a speech therapist and a vocal instructor, but she was frustrated because she could not get in touch with her feelings and the world.
Singer-songwriter Sayuri Dies
Sayuri has worked as a singer and guitarist in the local music scene since she was a teenager, believing in willpower and busking with a compact music duo LONGTAL. At 19, she became a mainstream solo artist with her debut single Mikazuki released in August 2016 and used as the ending credit to the Rampo Kitan: Game of Laplace anime. In her career, she has sung other theme songs for anime. She has released many songs that are anime songs such as “Hana No Tō” of Lycoris Recoil and “Heikōsen” of Scum Work, not forgetting about “Sore wa Chiisa na Hikari no yō na” from my favorite anime first aired in 2016 to some “Kōkai no Uta” in the year 2019 from one of the seasons of My Hero Academia.
