Unprecedented Security Breach Unfolds in Parliament Attack: 2 Incidents, 4 Detained, Smoke Engulfs Lok Sabha

New Delhi Parliament Attack: witnessed a significant breach of security during Zero Hour in Parliament on Wednesday, marking the 22nd anniversary of the terror attack on the old Parliament building. The incident unfolded at 1:02 pm when two individuals, carrying smoke canisters emitting unidentified yellow smoke, leaped from the visitors’ gallery and infiltrated the Lok Sabha chamber.

Parliament Attack: Man jumps into Lok Sabha

CCTV footage captured the daring escape of one man, clad in a dark blue shirt, who skillfully maneuvered across desks to evade capture. Simultaneously, the second individual released smoke from the visitors’ gallery. Prompt intervention by MPs and security personnel led to the apprehension of both trespassers.

The Lok Sabha reconvened at 2 pm, where Speaker Om Birla addressed the gravity of the situation, stating, “We are investigating the matter and have asked Delhi Police to join the inquiry,” in response to the concerns raised by agitated MPs.

Earlier, shocking visuals shared by news agency ANI depicted a Lok Sabha official addressing the House moments before chaos ensued. Shouts of “catch him, catch him” disrupted the proceedings, with notable figures such as Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and Union ministers Hardeep Singh Puri and Anupriya Patel present.

Bahujan Samaj Party MP Danish Ali revealed that a visitor’s pass recovered after the scuffle was issued by BJP MP Pratap Simha’s office. However, any visitor, regardless of the issuing MP, must pass five levels of security before entering Parliament.

Expressing concern, Congress MP Karti Chidambaram highlighted the potential danger of the gas, urging a thorough investigation. Trinamool Congress MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay called the incident a “terrible experience” and criticized the security lapse.

Outside Parliament, two additional individuals, a man and a woman—identified as Amol Shinde, 25, and Neelam, 42—were detained with colored smoke canisters that emitted red and yellow smoke. Delhi Police sources suggest that the two incidents are likely related.

As the nation grapples with the unfolding events, serious questions arise about the security breach and its timing on the 22nd anniversary of the terror attack on the old Parliament building. Hours before the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu led a tribute to the nine people who lost their lives in the tragic event.
