Padres turn game-ending triple play, clinch playoff berth with win over Dodgers.

On Tuesday, the San Diego Padres achieved a game-ending triple play, assured themselves a place in the playoff meeting, and continued to dream of lifting the NL West title following their 4-2 victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.

The staggering success which was their fifth triumph in a row over the hated Giants moved San Diego within two games of the vastly superior division-leading Dodgers with five games still left in the regular season.

It seemed that the ninth inning was becoming a real heartbreaker for the San Diego baseball team because closer Robert Suarez gave up a run on three hits from Will Smith, Tommy Edman, and Kiké Hernandez all in a row. With a 4 to 2 lead, the Padres now had runners on first and second, no outs Ian Desmond at bat with Miguel Rojas on deck and Shohei Ohtani in the hole ladders.

Rojas hit the ball right to third baseman Manny Machado whose throw led to the successful reviewed triple play. Otherwise, Shohei Ohtani was next to bat. Ohtani would have gotten a chance to be the game-winner for the Dodgers and spoil the Padre’s celebration moments but due to Rojas’ grounder and the Padre’s infield, Ohtani failed.

Well, you may already be realizing that a game-ending and postseason-winning critical defense of the recently involved team baseball club is a rather pleasantly historical moment. This is also only the third game-ending -pythonic triple precept footballer while hazards in the playoff era (the New Yankees provision rain June 20, 2021) followed by the Philadelphia Phillies with their own Super Cup on November 23, 2009). Speaking of playoff time, there are only three more teams that have managed to pull off a triple play on the very day when a postseason ticket was earned. Please note the dates; September 27, 2020, for the Milwaukee Brewers and October 02, 1910, for the Chicago Cubs and back-to-back Cubs, September 23, 1907. In the aforementioned line-up, the Padres take the fourth position.
