A man from Wisconsin, while rock climbing at Devils Tower in Wyoming, lost his balance and fell, authorities say. His climbing partner got stuck and was later saved.
CROOK COUNTY, WYOMING, Wyo. — An Eau Claire, Wisconsin man is deceased after he suffered a fatal fall while rock climbing at the Devils Tower National Monument located in Cody on a Sunday evening. Reportedly, over the entire history of the monument less than 10 people have died.
According to the National Park Service’s statement to the press, “Stephanie Medina, age 12”. Stewart Phillip could not avoid one of the peaks and fell, “sustaining major injuries” pressing the release. Witnesses stated that he died on the spot.
Rock Climber Death Devils Tower
According to officials, It was while working on rappelling the second pitch of El Cracko Diablo that Porter lost his footing and fell off. His accomplice was left stuck on the wall of the tower and was later saved from there.
“Over a century of the climbing history that has been recorded at the Tower, there have only been seven climbing fatalities. Climbing casualties at the Devils Tower are rare, what is undeniable though is that it remains dangerous,” read the statement released by the National Park Service.
The park has about half a million visitors in a year, as per the National Park Service, and it has been noted that climbing is one of the “routine activities done at the park.”
