Miami Dolphins wide receiver Grant DuBose sustained a serious head injury during Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans. He left the field on a stretcher and was unable to move. He was also reported to be in a stable condition after suffering from a burn on his head Mri which made him in fact be prepared to be taken to the hospital in Houston for further evaluation.
Miami Dolphins Details of the Incident
The Dolphins were losing 20-6 when the injury happened in the third quarter. DuBose was being passed a ball by Tua Tagovailoa who aimed to get it through the middle but was unfortunately tackled by Calen Bullock and got hit head-on. This impact made sure that DuBose was left completely still on the ground and unable to move.
He was attended to by medical staff at once. The treatment consisted of taking off his helmet and jersey and putting a collar on his neck. Several straps were used to fasten his arms and body to a backboard before being transported off the field via a stretcher. However, aerial shot coverage showed that DuBose did not move at all as he was being carried away, and it is not known whether he was awake then.
While the minutes passed and the game was interrupted for a while, DuBose was surrounded by the Dolphins players who went on their knees. The Dolphins were assessed a foul for the vicious hit by Bullock.
DuBose’s Condition and Team Updates
Post-game, coach Mike McDaniel gave a short report in the following way, ‘Looking at the first images of the head and neck, there were positive indications.’ Still, Dubose was due to stay in Houston for another night for additional treatment and assessment.
DuBose’s professional career started precisely a year ago, with the Packers, exactly a year ago, after being picked in the seventh round of the draft. He has since played for Charlotte. DuBose has appeared in three games, catching the ball twice for a total of 18 yards, since August when he was released by the Packers. This past season, he was able to play three games for the Dolphins.
Reaction from Players and Coaches
Texans safety Calen Bullock explained after the match and expressed regret for the hit:
“I wasn’t trying to hurt anybody,” Bullock said. “I was praying he’s [the opponent] fine.”
The moment was quite disturbing for Dolphins players and staff. Tagovailoa, who went through head injuries as well, went into details and confronted himself with the thought of how DuBose got into that position.
“I feel sorry for him that I did that to him,” Tagovailoa said. “It’s hard to watch it happen to your teammate. I just hope he’s okay.”
