Raiders fire offensive coordinator Luke Getsy and two others

After nine games, the Las Vegas Raiders have let go of offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, as per the announcement by the team on Sunday night.

The Raiders also parted ways with offensive line coach James Cregg and quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello. They were also in their first year with the Raiders, just like Luke Getsy.

After Sunday’s setback of 41 to 24 suffered against the Bengals, the team now shares the worst record in the NFL, at 2-7. Luke Getsy’s offensive unit was effective and scored an opening drive touchdown in 4 out of the last 5 Las Vegas games. However, it stagnated for the rest of the game as it did in the earlier part. It’s the first five-game losing streak for the team since the year 2018.

There were also four other such losing drives during that time frame, according to the AP, mainly when the Raiders were losing by at least 20 points in the last five minutes of games.

“It was not a good day at the office,” was Pierce’s dejected comment after Sunday’s defeat. A match that had been tied 10-10 towards the close of the second quarter.

“I think this applies to all of us. I mean, it’s group work. It’s collective work. We have to do better in all aspects. We would like to emphasize this game and analyze which are the areas that we can improve on. From the coaches for the play calling, the players for the execution, and the situations that all of us can do better and have a chance to close the fourth quarter and win the game instead of always trying to come from behind.”

In 2022 and 2023, Luke Getsy held the position of the Offensive Coordinator for the Chicago Bears and was credited as the architect of the team’s 1st and 2nd rushing attack in the NFL. Before this weekend, gets overseas the Las Vegas unit that came 28th in the total offense of the entire NFL league. In passing, it was number 18 and in rushing number 31, and in terms of points scored. The Raiders’ average beating was 18.0 which was the 26th in the NFL league out of his 32 teams’ lows.

This week, Luke Getsy speaks to the media and stresses the fact that “scripted” plays within a certain time frame in the game are uncritical.

Luke Getsy

It’s a word that I know you find appealing, but let’s be though, it’s not true. … You can be active when there is a course of action in place. So, the guys are focused on when we are in the game and what plays we are going to run at what yard line. When we are at the 25-yard line, these are the means through which we are going to assault them. And if it’s a third down and three yards to go, this is how we are going to go against them. And it does not change. Well, the plan is to do this for the game opening, this for the play, and these are the additional plays after we make the play and gather new information.

“All right then, there’s no script. There is no this planned out. It’s a focus and an attention to detail. … We’ve just got to continue to enhance that execution part, ensuring such can hold up for four quarters.”

Luke Getsy, who the Bears dismissed in January, was taken on by the Raiders in February after former Arizona Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury backed out of the search.

Luke Getsy had been transitioned from the field to the press box to announce plays before the Raiders’ defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers two weeks back.

Raiders
